Getting visitors connected

If you are a member of staff who is hosting visitors to the campus, you will need to think about how they will access the internet, should they need to.

If you are a visitor attending an event on campus, please do check with your employer or your IT department about whether your work device is able to connect to a guest / free wifi network.

WI-FI

If visitors plan to use their own devices while on campus, they need to be aware of any local security restrictions their device might have. We are seeing more devices that are locked for security and therefore cannot connect to a guest or free wifi service. If this is the case, you will need to make alternative arrangements to get connected to the internet like a local hotspot or tethering of some kind (for this you will need good mobile network coverage).

The University uses eduroam (Janet's educational network) for staff and students who have an IT account and for visitors who have eduroam at their own university.

Visitors can connect to the GuestUoW network temporarily (3 days) using a laptop, tablet or mobile phone. Please follow these instructions:

  1. Go to your device network settings and select the network called GuestUoW
  2. Open a browser and try to visit any web address, this will take you to the T&Cs for GuestUoW. Read and accept these.
  3. This network allows you to sign in using your Google account details or your Facebook sign in details. You can also use a different email address like aol.com but you will be asked to check this email account for a confirmation email (you will be given 5 mins of connectivity to check this email account and respond to verify your sign-in to GuestUoW). You must verify this email address using the same device you are trying to connect to the guest wifi.
  4. You’ll now have automatic access for 3 days. After this time you'll need to repeat the registration process.
