CLASS OF 2023: Honorary Award is a good fit for amazing local fundraiser

25/09/2023

The University of Wolverhampton has awarded an Honorary Fellowship to a tireless local fundraiser who has put Wolves on the map by raising funds for charities.

Honorary awards are presented by the University of Wolverhampton to people who have made a significant contribution to their field of expertise.

Born and bred in Wolverhampton, Manjinder Singh Kang lives to help others. He is always thinking of new ways to fundraise and help however he can.

As a passionate ambassador for Dementia UK, he organises many events, raising over £240,000 for them and other local charities too. This has included the now famous "Samosa Saturday" where he gives away samosas for donations, before Wolves games. He has the love of his family who help make the wonderful samosas and an army of volunteers who help on the day.

He has run the London Marathon three times and walked over 120 miles from Molineux to Anfield to watch his beloved Wolves FC play Chelsea, as well as cycling from Molineux to Anfield!

Manny said: “It's a complete surprise to be awarded like this. Being human is already a huge privilege and it’s hugely humbling to be recognised for trying to use the messages of my faith. It will hopefully inspire others too, to make volunteering and helping others part of their everyday life."

The University’s graduation ceremonies take place at the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton, from Thursday 14 September to Friday 22 September 2023.

Graduates are encouraged to keep in touch with the Alumni team and take advantage of a range of benefits and support on offer to them including a discount for Postgraduate study and opportunities to benefit from mentoring, volunteering and career advice.
