Where in the World Could the Turing Scheme Take You?

Applications are now open for the Turing Scheme, offering funding for study and work placements abroad.

The Turing Scheme is the UK government's programme for providing funding for international opportunities in education and training across the world.  Supporting the University of Wolverhampton's internationalisation objectives, the Turing Scheme unlocks the opportunity to offer life-changing experiences across the world for our students. The scheme is delivered by a consortium of the British Council and Ecorys UK.

The Turing Scheme is now open for students to apply for funded placements abroad, applications close on Thursday 21 March 2024.

Why participate in a Turing Scheme placement?

Participating in a Turing Scheme placement isn't just a chance to travel – it's an offer of personal and professional transformation. This unique opportunity allows students to develop essential skills, gain invaluable international experience, and significantly enhance their employability. Through study or work placements abroad, participants have the chance to:

  • Develop new skills: Acquire skills that extend beyond the classroom, contributing to both personal and professional growth.
  • Boost employability: Gain a competitive edge in the global job market by showcasing an international perspective and a rich tapestry of experiences.
  • Cultural enrichment: Immerse yourself in diverse cultures, fostering cultural awareness, open-mindedness, and a broader global perspective.
  • International network: Build lasting connections with international peers, exchange ideas, and develop a network that spans the globe.
  • CV enhancement: Elevate your CV with a unique blend of academic achievement and global exposure, making you stand out to prospective employers.

The ripple effect: Return transformed

Students returning from a Turing Scheme placement bring more than just memories. They return motivated, independent, and confident, armed with improved language skills and an international network of friends. The experience leaves an indelible mark, shaping individuals into well-rounded, adaptable, and globally-minded citizens.

Previous University of Wolverhampton students who have participated in Turing Scheme placements share their heartwarming reflections on their experiences:

Elizabeth, who undertook a placement in Croatia in November 2022 said: "I am extremely grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity. I have learnt many skills that I can transfer into future careers, as well as having gained new lifelong friends.

"It has been an amazing experience to see bottlenose dolphins in their natural environment and being able to learn more about this amazing species."

Kelsea visited Cambodia in August 2023: "Arkoun Chraen ('thank you so much', in Khmer).

"Volunteering abroad has been such a life changing experience that will stay with me forever. From life lessons, new perspectives and exploring cultures and country. Forever grateful for the memories that will last a lifetime."

Monique's placement was in USA, between  Jun – Aug 2023: "I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I have had and I cannot wait to see where life takes me next, though I am hoping for now, it will be back to camp. I can apply this to my study and professional life and when I struggle  I can look back and think, what an achievement this has been. I will shout from the rooftops that anyone considering going to a camp, absolutely should, especially if it is related to study. For me it was very relevant, but even just for personal growth it is an exceptional adventure to undertake."
