Brinsford Boys visit campus after over 40 Years

A group of alumni made a special return to campus in January, more than 40 years after they were last there as students.

The reunion visit, organised by alumnus Dave Holyoake, saw the alumni travel from across the country to descend on Wolverhampton and take a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

The alums graduated in 1980 and 1981 in courses including Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Law, and became friends while staying in University accommodation at Brinsford Lodge, Featherstone. They have stayed in touch ever since, aiming to get-together at least once a year, but this was the first visit that they had collectively made back to the University, then a Polytechnic, since the early 80s.

The visit saw them take in the array of building and facility changes that have occurred in the last 40 years, but also, still recognise a few areas, including that Students' Union, where many an evening was spent socialising.

Dave said “It was staying in accommodation together and socialising on campus and in the SU that made us become friends. If it wasn’t for those experiences and opportunities, we probably wouldn’t be standing here today, still great friends”.
