University celebrates international milestones in Hong Kong
The University of Wolverhampton recently celebrated two significant international milestones in Hong Kong - marking 21 years since the formation of the University’s Hong Kong Alumni Association as well as its educational partnership with the CityU School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE).
Recently, students, staff, alumni, and VIPs came together for an afternoon graduation ceremony at SCOPE, which was followed by an evening dinner hosted by the Hong Kong Alumni Association, where the longstanding partnerships were formally recognised and celebrated.
Both relationships have now reached their 23 years’ milestone with celebrations to mark the 21 years postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent travel restrictions between countries.
SCOPE is a school within City University (CityU) Hong Kong that teaches a range of Construction-based University of Wolverhampton courses with over 120 students graduating in its Class of 2023.
The University of Wolverhampton offers top-up degree courses in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying and the ‘Flying Faculty’ involves academic staff based at the University’s Springfield Campus teaching the courses in Hong Kong.
Professor Ebrahim Adia, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “Today marks a significant milestone in the partnership between the University of Wolverhampton and CityU SCOPE. We are celebrating 21 years of a close educational partnership, a partnership that has grown and strengthened over the years. To our graduates, congratulations on everything you have achieved. The whole University celebrates with you and is proud of your achievements. We wish you great success and happiness.”
From the graduation ceremony, celebrations moved to the Kowloon Harbourfront Hotel for the evening’s Hong Kong Alumni Association anniversary dinner, which saw more than 60 guests come together for a wonderful evening of reminiscing, networking, games, and excellent food.
Dr Paul Hampton, Head of the School of Architecture and Built Environment, said: “This is a legacy milestone and having been involved with the course for over 17 years, and visited Hong Kong over 50 times, I never lose my enthusiasm to meet and support the next group of students through their academic journey. Indeed, over the last two decades, I am so proud that many students have progressed onwards to become presidents of professional bodies, CEOs, and have reached huge personal milestones in their careers.”
During the evening’s celebrations, moments were taken to conduct two significant presentations. Firstly, Dr Hampton presented Dr Isaac Ng, Director of the School of Continuing and Professional Education, City University of Hong Kong, with a framed signed certificate marking the anniversary between both institutions.
David Wedge, Deputy Head of Alumni Relations, then took to the stage to presented alumnus, Anthony Kam, with his Alumni Hall of Fame trophy. Anthony was inducted into the University’s inaugural Alumni Hall of Fame Class in June at the University’s second annual Alumni Awards, for his services to the University over two decades.
