University shares IT expertise with Uzbekistan

The University of Wolverhampton hosted a visit recently from a valued partner in Uzbekistan – establishing further collaboration between the two universities. 

A delegation from the International Digital University (IDU) visited the University as part of ongoing discussions about offering new educational programmes, student exchanges, summer schools and research initiatives between the two organisations. 

IDU is a relatively new university with a highly experienced management team who have experience at the Westminster and the London South Bank partnerships, both located in Tashkent, which provides British-standard higher education in IT and Business degrees.  

Jo Fuller, Senior International Partnerships Manager at the University of Wolverhampton, visited IDU University in Tashkent meeting staff, students and The British Ambassador. She said: “The University of Wolverhampton has worked with IDU for several years, building a franchise partnership with focus on key IT subjects including Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security. We are now working together to formally launch our partnership, in Uzbekistan, in the near future. 

“There are a number of established Transnational Education partnerships in Uzbekistan which has seen a change in political direction over the past few years, with the central Asia marketplace really opening out to UK universities and we’re delighted that IDU has secured a licence to work specifically with us. 

“The team in Tashkent is currently driving forward a refurbishment project of their current premises and we are in the process of completing our due diligence.  We very much look forward to moving this partnership a stage further over the coming months.” 

Alan France, Rector of IDU, said: “It was a very productive visit and Wolverhampton became our second home for two days. We felt so welcomed by all colleagues and the city. We were very impressed by our tour of the campus, the facilities and our discussions confirming that the University of Wolverhampton is great choice for our future collaborations with the UK. We look forward to many fruitful, co-operative years as a trusted partner.”
