The University of Wolverhampton is running a free online event offering information and support on autism in children.

The ‘Autism in Children – A Parent’s Guide’ event is taking place on Tuesday 19 September 2023 between 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm.

The event is hosted by Zoe Stuart and Peter Harwood, SEND Leads at the University and in association with the University’s Disabled Staff Network and the Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing.

It covers a general introduction to autism and what this means, including exploring the diversity of characteristics.  It also discusses how autism may present in children, and differently by gender, as well as what parents/carers can do if they think their child might be autistic.

Dr Melanie Best, co-chair of the Disabled Staff Network at the University, said: “Parents can be told by the school or childcare provider that their child is showing autistic tendencies, but they do not know what this means or what to do next.

“This talk will offer advice and guidance for parents in the steps to take and what and where they can get further information and support.”

The event is open to anyone and can be booked here.

Anyone interested in courses being offered in the Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing should check out the website or register for one of our forthcoming Open Days.
