New 18-month-MSc in Offsite Construction with Professional Practice Placement

The School of Architecture and Built Environment has launched a new 18-month-master's in Offsite Housing Construction with Professional Practice Placement starting in September 2021.

This full-time master's aims to provide an industrial placement opportunity during Semester 3 (May to October).

Students will have the opportunity to do a six-month industrial placement with a top UK offsite construction organisation for a real taste of the UK construction industry.

This course is being developed in response to the anticipated demand for offsite construction in the next 10 years nationally and internationally. By focusing on real-world projects and case studies, the course will expose students to live issues currently being faced by the construction sector. Understanding these problems and developing solutions will ensure students are at the forefront of the industry. our state of the art online learning facilities, students will be able to engage with the course

Aim of the course: This course is specifically designed to address national, European and international market needs for delivering houses faster without compromising quality using innovative and modern methods of construction. It will enable students to better manage construction projects through a broader understanding of issues relating to process efficiency and productivity improvement.

Professional Practice Placement Professor Mohammed Arif, Head of the School of Architecture and Built Environment, said:

“This is a new chapter in the evolution of the School of Architecture and Built Environment.

“The School of Architecture and Built Environment is well-established in delivering postgraduate courses. Using our state of the art learning facilities at our new Springfield Campus, students will be able to engage with the course material, the course teaching team and their peers.

“We have been very successful in promoting construction education in the region. However, to increase our global footprint and impact, it is important that we look at enhancing the student learning experience through industrial work experience. This is one of several initiatives underway within the school to further promote construction education regionally, nationally and globally.”
