Student Update: Welcome message from Pro Vice Chancellor

25/01/2024

The following welcome message for new and returning students was circulated to students via email on 18 January 2024.

Dear students

I want to extend a very warm welcome to all of you as you embark on semester 2 and I hope you’ve been able to enjoy a restful break over the festive season.

Some of you will just be starting your student journey. You may be joining us from overseas and need to acclimatise to the culture and climate, as well as University life. I encourage that you to take part in Refreshers events and activities over the coming weeks to learn about the comprehensive services available from the University and your Students' Union, and take opportunities to make friends. Support is on hand if you need any help completing your enrolment or getting to grips with any aspect of university life.

For those of you who have started the new year with assessments, I wish you the best of luck. I also recognise that many of our students will have additional commitments outside of your studies. No matter what your personal circumstance, or stage of your academic journey, I urge that you make the most of your time with us.  Attend your lectures, pay close attention to feedback; and take advantage of the support network we have available. From academic, study and digital skills, to wellbeing, career development and financial support and advice, our teams are here for you. Our ASK@WLV student enquiry service will be your first port of call if you don't know where to start. You will find more information that will be beneficial to both new and continuing students in the email below.

Throughout your time with us you will be offered many opportunities to share your views. We really appreciate you taking the time to engage with us. Surveys, such as the upcoming National Student Survey (NSS) for final year students, give us invaluable information that will help us to keep doing what works and to make improvements that will benefit students for years to come.

You can also talk to us, as staff. I assure you we are all here to listen, and we care about meeting your needs.

I am very much looking forward to working with you to co-create your future.

Best of luck with your studies, and I hope you have a fantastic year.
