Whether you're new to campus or returning, welcome

A warm WLV welcome to all students joining us in Semester 2, and welcome back to all those continuing your studies. The information in this update will help new students get started and may serve as a timely reminder for returners. 

You are all encouraged to engage with the upcoming Refresher events and activities and learn about the comprehensive support available from the University.

Refreshers fayres

Refresher fayres are a great way to meet new friends, sign up for societies, meet your Students' Union team and get to know the services and support available across the university to help you to get the most out of student life.

All students are welcome to come along to a Refreshers fayre and take part in the various events and activities taking place throughout Welcome Week.

  • City Campus: Monday 29 January, 10am - 3pm
  • Walsall Campus: Wednesday 31 January, 10am - 3pm​
  • Telford Campus: Thursday 1 February, 10am - 2pm

With a range of activities throughout the week including a movie night and games night at the Luna Lounge and wellbeing crafts in the Deli Moon, we have all areas covered... even a football match in Walsall! Keep an eye on the Students' Union social media channels for more updates.

Your enrolment guide

You can also get face to face support with an enrolment query, and complete your ID check (for new starters) at one of the on-campus Enrolment Hubs, at Houseman Building City Campus, and The Performance Hub, Walsall Campus.

IT essentials

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

It is really important that you set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), to be able to access essential systems including your University emails and Office 365, Canvas and myWLV app.  Follow these steps to set-up your Multifactor authentication (MFA) on your phone. 

IT induction 

There is a set of core IT essentials that all students need to access, as well as specialist software for some courses. Whether you are studying from home on your own device or on-campus using a University PC you have access to all our core applications:   

  • Microsoft 365 for your email, file creation, storage and video/chat.   
  • Canvas for your Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and online learning.   
  • MyWLV app  for central access to your emails and timetable. 
  • E:Vision where you can update your details and log a Help call to ASK@WLV.  

If your course requires specialist software, for example, Adobe Creative Cloud or Matlab, your course team will provide you with more information on how it can be accessed. You can also check the Software Catalogue (you will need to log in); for a full list of all software for you to use both on and off-campus.

Find your timetable 

You’ll find your personalised timetable behind the calendar button on MyWLV. Timetables can only be viewed after you have set up MFA and successfully enrolled and selected your modules for the coming year.  Please be aware that it can take a few days for your details to be updated and appear on your timetable.  

You can also access timetable information here – you will need to enter your module codes.

Finding your way: Tours, travel and maps 

The University of Wolverhampton is based in locations across the Midlands. Our main campus is City Campus, based in Wolverhampton city centre.

Parking 

NCP Parking is available across Wolverhampton city centre. Discounted student parking is also available at the Molineux Stadium, City Campus - you just need to show your WLV ID card.

On-campus parking is available at Walsall and Telford campuses. 

Buses 

The University operates a free inter-campus shuttle bus serving the three campuses at Wolverhampton, Walsall and Telford (Monday to Friday). Find bus schedules and locations at wlv.ac.uk/bus.

 

Using your University Library 

The University of Wolverhampton libraries enrich the academic and creative life of our students and staff by providing access to information, resources and study spaces.  

We have three libraries which can be accessed by any University of Wolverhampton student.  

  • The Harrison Library at City Campus in The Ambika Paul Building 
  • The Walsall Library at Walsall Campus in the Performance Hub 
  • The Hutchison Library at Telford Campus in The Angad Paul Building.

Student support services

ASK@WLV

You may find that life at university challenges you in unexpected ways, especially if you're balancing your studies with work and home commitments. If you feel stressed or anxious, you can find support at the University. 

ASK@WLV should be the first point of call to access help and advice, and the easiest way to contact them is by logging a Helpcall in e:Vision. You can also call 01902 518 518 and speak to someone on campus at an ASK@WLV helpdesk.

Your wellbeing

All students can access online mental health and wellbeing support 24/7 through WLV Student Life Connect – an online community monitored by trained professionals. If you need advice or extra help, please check our self-help resources web page  or book a drop-in session at wlv.ac.uk/MHW.  If you are struggling financially, hardship funding is also available.

WLV Wallet 

WLV Wallet is an online portal available to all students at the University of Wolverhampton. The portal has several resources to empower and support you during your studies, including free live events, student blogs, wellbeing resources and an online store.

Your campus safety and security 

Security is an essential aspect of life at university.

At the University of Wolverhampton, Security Services operates 24 hours a day all year round to provide a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors and ensure that the University is an enjoyable place to study, work and visit.

Download the SafeZone app 

The SafeZone app provides a useful source of reassurance to people working and studying on campus. The app promotes safety in a number of ways, including giving fast access to the University’s security team whenever and wherever you are on campus by allowing users to call for help and assistance when they need it most.

WLV Sports

WLV Sports Gym membership: WLV Sport is open to all, offering a range of sports and physical activity facilities at Walsall and City Campuses. Memberships are inclusive of both facilities and priced at an excellent rate for students (£10 per month, direct debit). This January you can take advantage of a special deal and sign up for a 6-month student membership for £50! In addition to workout and fitness facilities, our sports halls are available for hire, and you can play a number of sports here at the University. 

Let's Move Wolves: This social sports programme offers over 20 social sporting opportunities a week, including badminton, basketball and football. At £2 per session (no membership required), you to enjoy social sport with zero commitment.  See the programme and book a session at Let's Move Wolves

Places to eat and drink on campus 

Our campuses are packed with relaxing places to eat and drink. There is also The Campus Shop, where you can pick up snacks, drinks, study essentials and University of Wolverhampton merchandise.
