For the history curriculum, we again have boxes dedicated to the different time periods on the curriculum: Stone age, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greek, Ancient Roman, Anglo Saxon and Viking, Aztec, Tudor, Stuart, Victorian, and World War II.You can find our Curriculum Resources Collection down the end of the first floor of Walsall Campus library. This is an expansive collection of textbooks, fiction books, big books, picture books, storysacks, artefact sets, games, and much more.

These are a great hands-on resource especially for our early years, education, and PGCE students to use in planning and placement in primary and secondary settings.

In a previous post we discussed Storysacks, today we will turn our attention to the Artefacts. These are targeted at helping our teacher trainees explain parts of the history and religion curriculum in a more hands-on way.

We have boxes dedicated to Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Buddhism. In these we have artefacts that demonstrate different aspects of each - covering elements of faith, celebration, and customs. Our collection includes; nativities scenes for Christianity, statues of Hindu deities ,Islamic prayer mat, Sikh turbans and Jewish Seder plates – all borrowable to help demonstrate and discuss these religions.

For the history curriculum, we again have boxes dedicated to the different time periods on the curriculum: Stone age, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greek, Ancient Roman, Anglo Saxon and Viking, Aztec, Tudor, Stuart, Victorian, and World War II.

In the boxes we have for example an evacuee’s suitcase filled with a gas mask, toys, money, and identity cards and papers. We have, helmets from all different periods – including a Roman Legionnaire’s, a Viking warrior’s, and a Parliamentarian Roundhead’s. Some also include aspects of religion such as statues of Egyptian and Aztec deities, parts of day-to-day life such as a Roman sponge-on-a-stick , and fun and games such as a skittles set from the Victorian era and a Viking Toy horse. The artefacts come with descriptions of whats contained and some come with additional booklets – such as our collection of replica coins from James I which includes a booklet about currency, explaining what a farthing and crown were.

View our Artefacts and Games collection for a full list of whats available.
