National theatre screenings come to Wolverhampton

The University of Wolverhampton’s Arena Theatre will be screening National Theatre Live for theatre enthusiasts across Wolverhampton from March 2023. 

NT Live is an initiative by the National Theatre in London to broadcast live theatre productions to cinemas and performing arts venues worldwide. 

The venue will be bringing the best of British theatre to local audiences, with the programme featuring a series of acclaimed productions including classic plays and contemporary dramas, performed by some of the UK’s most talented actors. 

The first screening of the series is Othello, a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic. on Friday 24 March at 7.30 pm. Othello is directed by Clint Dyer, and features a star-studded cast including Giles Terera, followed by Life of Pi a week later on Friday 31 March at 7.30 pm. 

Neil Reading, Artistic Director at the Arena Theatre, said: “Having access to the NT Live programme is essential for the people of Wolverhampton and we are delighted to be bringing this provision back to the City Centre at the Arena. Customers will get a chance to see world class theatre broadcast in an intimate setting on our enviable projection and sound systems. We’re very excited to be able to offer access to shows people may not otherwise be able to see at an affordable price just a few minutes from home.” 

National Theatre Live screenings will become an integral part of the theatre’s programme of activities. Tickets are available online, over the phone and at the box office. The Arena Theatre encourages everyone to check the theatre’s website and social media for the full schedule of screenings, and to reserve their seats well in advance.
