University appoints new Deans

The University of Wolverhampton has appointed two new Deans.

Professor David Proverbs has been appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, and Professor Damien Page is to become the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing.

Both new Deans will join the University in August.

Professor David Proverbs was until recently Associate Dean International at Birmingham City University and has over 25 years of experience in higher education, having held strategic leadership roles in three modern universities.

David is a graduate of the University and a former staff member. He completed his first degree and PhD at the University of Wolverhampton before becoming an academic and then Head of Department. He has also worked at the University of the West of England as Head of the School of Architecture and the Built Environment. 

David has developed significant regional, national and international research and enterprise collaborations, drawing on a range of funding sources to pioneer innovative solutions towards improving resilience to flooding. His research has had significant national and international impact in the development of UK climate change policy.

David said: "As a proud alumnus and former Head of Department, I am absolutely delighted to be coming back to my home university as Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

"The University of Wolverhampton is an incredibly innovative place of learning, and I am looking forward to the exciting challenges involved in helping to create a world-class and inclusive STEM faculty. The area has a rich science and engineering heritage that once led the world. I look forward to maximising our partnerships and responding to the demand for our skills and expertise while building on the significant strengths that are already in place. 

"There are huge opportunities ahead and much work to do as we rebuild our economy following the pandemic. The Faculty of Science and Engineering will be a catalyst for change regionally, nationally and internationally in the post-Covid-19 era, and I am genuinely privileged to be coming home."

Professor Damien Page is currently Dean of Carnegie School of Education at Leeds Beckett University.

His previous roles have included Curriculum and Learning Manager for the Linking London Lifelong Learning Network at Birkbeck, University of London, and as a Senior Lecturer, then Principal Lecturer, in teacher education at the University of Greenwich, teaching on part-time and distance learning PGCE. He worked as Head of Department of Education and Community Studies at Greenwich from 2013 to 2015 and Director of Employability for the Faculty of Education and Health.

Damien moved to Leeds Beckett in 2016 as Dean of Carnegie School of Education.

He is still research active, publishing on areas including teacher surveillance, family engagement in alternative provision and the sensorium in schools.
