Ceramic Commons

Ceramic Commons

The ‘Ceramic Commons’ project is an idea that has developed between Megumi Naitoh, based in Boston (USA) and Anna Andersen, Horsens, (Denmark), both of whom were working with ceramics and 3D printing in two different continents.

A series of exhibitions have been developed in collaboration with other artists around the world in celebration of Open Source principles licensed under creative commons, hence the name Ceramic Commons. The principle is that digital files of the artist’s work are emailed and then 3D printed by the host exhibitors. A variety of different 3D printers, materials and firing processes are used so that iterations of the work occur in the exhibitions. The exhibition starts on Saturday 7 March until Sunday 5 July 2020 at the Midland Arts Centre (MAC) in Birmingham, followed by an exhibition at the University of Wolverhampton.

The work for these shows has being printed, glazed and fired by Paul McAllister (Senior Lecturer - Glass and Ceramics) and Megumi Naitoh at the Wolverhampton School of Art.
