University signs strategic partnership with South Staffordshire College

The University of Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire College have announced a new Strategic Partnership Alliance, designed to maximise opportunities for students and student success.

The alliance will see both institutions working together to identify educational practices, courses, and innovation which are of mutual interest to both the University and the College.

It’s anticipated this will include identifying synergies between the two educational organisation’s facilities, education and training activities along with creating opportunities for future joint activities and projects which translate educational developments into innovative educational developments which benefit the University, the College and also their shared communities and regions.

Therefore, this agreement represents a wider promise to the local community, including the support for young people with their progression pathway.

There are already plans to launch foundation degrees in engineering and health and social care at the college, with other subject areas under discussions.

The University of Wolverhampton has had a partnership with South Staffordshire College since June 2014 which enables South Staffordshire College to offer a foundation degree in music performance technologies.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton, Professor Geoff Layer, said: "We are the University of Opportunity as we strive to provide a gateway to a higher education, which is of high quality, to the community of the West Midlands; many of whom may have believed they would not have such an opportunity.

"This strategic partnership with South Staffordshire College will allow us to continue supporting learners of all ages to aspire and access higher education."

Claire Boliver, Chief Executive Principal at South Staffordshire College, said ‘I am delighted that South Staffordshire College is partnering with the University of Wolverhampton.

“The college is looking forward to working with the University to expand the range of higher education courses on offer at the college.

“Through the partnership and an increased portfolio of higher education courses, we hope to be able to support the needs of local employers and help lots of local people to secure the higher-level skills they need to achieve their dream career.”
