Online arts and science festival asks how the future will be shaped by COVID

University of Wolverhampton academics will be taking part in a worldwide online art, technology and science festival which asks questions about how the pandemic might shape the future.
The Ars Electronica Festival is over forty years old and is one of the world’s most important media arts festivals encompassing exhibitions, performances, concerts and interventions.
The festival opens with an event organised by Dr Denise Doyle from the Faculty of Arts, Business and Social Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton.
‘Identifying Successful STARTS Methodologies Exhibition for ‘UK Garden’ at Ars Electronica takes place on Wednesday 9 September 2020 from 1.00 pm until 2.15 pm and will be streamed online from the Made in Wolves Gallery at University of Wolverhampton’s City Campus.
The roundtable talk is followed by a live stream of BeAnotherLab, Pei-Ying Lin and Giulia Tomasello’s artist video journeys at 4.30pm with an introduction by Dr Doyle. This will be streamed live by the university and is available to book via Eventbrite
The ‘Identifying Successful STARTS Methodologies Exhibition’ includes the installation of Pei-Ying Lin’s Virophilia (2018-2020).
Dr Doyle said: “The festival will take people on a journey through the ‘new world’ created by the COVID-19 crisis and aims to answer some of the important questions posed by the impact of the Coronavirus, looking at how it might shape us as individuals and as a society in the future.
“We will be looking, in particular, at how art, science and technology works together in a time of uncertainty. Our artists will look at how we might overcome these moments and how art and science can collaborate to address global challenges in 2020.”
The Festival runs between 9 September and 13 September and will be streamed online from its base in Linz, Austria, to over 120 locations across the globe.
