Lectures explore matters of music, science-fiction, running, sound and more

The University of Wolverhampton is bringing Physics to life with a series of lectures which explore matters of music, science-fiction writing, running, sound and more.

The University's Centre of the Institute of Physics (IOP) was set up to create awareness of Physics and is one of the West Midlands branches of the IOP - the leading scientific worldwide membership society working to advance Physics.

The series of ten evening lectures will include inspiring and prestigious speakers from all over the UK at the University's City Campus in Wolverhampton and at its Stafford and Telford Centres.

Academics and researchers from Oxford, Cambridge, St Andrews, Sheffield, Southampton and other leading universities will cover a wide range of topics, from music to sport, passing by acoustics, entrepreneurship, futuristic technology, accuracy of science-fiction writing, time in the form of crystals, quantum fluids and what sound sounds like just before total silence, among other entertaining and off-the-beaten-track topics.

Fabrice Laussy, Professor of Physics in the School of Sciences at the University, said: "Through a series of ten evening lectures - the most abundant programme in the Midlands -academics and researchers from Oxford, Cambridge, Saint-Andrews, Sheffield, Southampton and other leading Universities will sensitize the audience to the importance of Science and the special role that Physics plays, as the most versatile, multi-disciplinary and fundamental discipline. "

All lectures are FREE and open to the general public and most of them take place on Wednesday evenings at 7.00 pm in the Wulfruna Building at City Campus in Wolverhampton. For further information check out the events listings on the website.

Anyone interested in studying for a degree in Physics is invited to register for the next Open Day on Saturday 12th October 2019.
