Graduate appeals for football donations to kick off competition in Cameroon

09/05/2017

A University of Wolverhampton graduate who organises a football tournament for women in deprived areas of Cameroon is appealing for sports equipment to support their next competition.

Vicky Ngamsha organises the Female Football Cup in a rural area of Cameroon, for a community where women do not all have access to education and some have suffered domestic violence.‌

The Business Information Systems graduate grew up in Cameroon, experiencing poverty and abuse as a young girl, but has gone on to become an author and charity founder.

She is hoping to build on the success of last year’s competition in 2017 – but needs donations to kick off the event.

Vicky, who is also a singer-songwriter and motivational speaker, said: “I was so touched by the success of the 2016 event and how women in the community appreciated being part of the competition. ‌

“In this community, women do not all have the privilege of education and some suffer domestic and other forms of violence. But they were able to exercise, gain physical education and a bit of money to help their families.

“Looking at the success of the project last year, I would like to expand on the project for 2017. I would therefore like to appeal for any unwanted footballs, boots, t-shirts, medals or any football related items that anyone can donate towards this project.”

After growing up in Africa, Vicky moved to the UK to be with her husband and graduated with a 2:1 BSc (Hons) in Business Information Systems from the University of Wolverhampton in 2012. She has written about her early experiences of poverty, violence and sexual abuse in her memoir, From Very Humble Beginnings: The Struggles of a Poor African Girl to a Successful Story.
