Using Library Resources in Your Teaching

The University Library is responsible for providing access to academic information in all formats, such as books, electronic articles, journals and audio-visual resources.

Faculty Liaison Librarians can support you in planning your teachingworking with you to provide high-quality accessible resources to support your teaching. This includes guiding you towards copyright compliant resources.

Please be aware that where you use any materials which have not been created by yourself, you will need to consider the copyright implications. See the Copyright guidelines and good practice for course materials, lectures and recorded lectures for more information.

Please be aware that under licence agreements, e-resources are not always available for use outside the UK.

JOURNALS, ARTICLES AND EBOOKS

We recommend using the Library’s e-resources for use within teaching.  e-books, e-journals and articles can be used for teaching purposes by linking them via Leganto, the University’s Reading List system

To help you locate e-resources appropriate to your subjects, we recommend using the Subject Resources pages. Here you will find useful information regarding e-resources and databases that are key to your subject areas.

AUDIO VISUAL MATERIAL

The Library recommends using Box of Broadcasts (BoB). This is an on demand TV and radio service for education. It allows academics and students to record programmes from over 75 free-to-air channels.

BoB provides access to a permanent archive of content from nine channels:

  • BBC1 London
  • BBC2
  • BBC4
  • ITV London
  • Channel 4
  • More4
  • Channel 5
  • BBC Radio 4
  • BBC Radio 4 Extra.

The recorded programmes are kept indefinitely and added to a growing media archive (currently at over 1 million programmes) including transcripts.

As well as the material you have recorded, you can play back and make clips from all the material recorded on BoB by other UK university staff and students. Lecturers can make programmes and clips available to students by creating playlists, using Canvas or circulating direct links.

Please note - Box of Broadcasts can only be used and accessed in the UK. Programmes/clips cannot be included in recordings of lectures
