Student Update: Covid-19 Reporting Procedures, Wolverhampton Test Centre and Support for Students

In our efforts to minimise the spread of coronavirus and support the NHS Test and Trace programme, a standard University-wide process has now been agreed for all reports of suspected and confirmed Covid-19 cases for both students and staff at the University of Wolverhampton.

Staff across the University continue to work hard to embed the best possible safety measures, and we have successfully returned some of our staff and students to campus already. However, everyone has a role to play, and the process outlined below is an essential part of this.

If you are experiencing coronavirus symptoms or have received a positive test result:

Coronavirus symptoms are a high temperature, a new continuous cough and a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.

• If you are experiencing coronavirus symptoms and/or you have received a positive test result, you will need to email covid-19help@wlv.ac.uk stating; your name, student number and a contact telephone number.

• Anyone who experiences coronavirus symptoms must not come on to campus or must leave campus immediately, avoid touching anything and return to their home or residence.

• Once you have sent your email, you will receive a response which contains a link to complete our online reporting form.
• Students should also contact their Personal Tutor or Academic Coach to let them know that they cannot return to campus; this enables the University to ensure that there is support in place to complete learning activities at home if appropriate.

• Once you have submitted the online reporting form, the University will work with the local Health Protection Team (HPT) to contact you, to advise you on your next steps and to complete a risk assessment. This will help us to protect other students and staff.

All data collected will be processed in accordance with the University's Track and Trace privacy notice.

Completing the online reporting form will notify your Faculty Student Services, the Student Support and Wellbeing team and the Library. This enables the University to ensure the right support is in place for you whilst you are required to self-isolate.

Wolverhampton Testing Centre – Faulkland Street

A new walk-through Covid-19 test centre has opened on Faulkland Street Car Park in the centre of Wolverhampton.

If you have symptoms, you should get a test as soon as possible. Coronavirus symptoms are a high temperature, a new continuous cough and a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. You should call 119 or visit www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test to arrange a free NHS test at your nearest test centre.

Support for students

Whether you are a new or returning student, things will no doubt feel very different as you commence your studies this year, but we are here to help you find your way and settle in.  The University has a vast range of support services available to you, and we understand that identifying the right support channel may not always be easy.

Staying Safe

As you will appreciate, the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic means that working and studying on-campus will be somewhat different from previously. We remain committed to ensuring that you have the best learning experience possible, but we need to place the safety of students and staff at the heart of everything we do.

This means that we expect all staff and students to adhere to the social distancing measures and other controls, such as wearing face coverings and following local restrictions. It is your responsibility as a member of the University community to be aware and abide by these so that we are all safe. 

10 things students should do to stop the spread of Covid-19

1. Don't invite visitors to your student flat, house or garden (or you visit theirs)*
2. Wash your hands regularly, for at least 20 seconds
3. Wear a face covering when required
4. Stay 2m apart, or 1m+ when not possible
5. Download the NHS Covid-19 app
6. Complete assignments from your home or residence if you can
7. Adhere to the 10 pm hospitality curfew
8. Support businesses that are Covid-secure
9. Self isolate and get a test if you have symptoms of Covid-19
10. Share your contact details for NHS Test and Trace
