Disability History Month event on Thursday 1 December

On Thursday, 1 December 2022, the Disabled Staff Network will hold an online event celebrating Disability History Month.

Staff, students, stakeholders and the general public are warmly invited to attend the whole day or sign up for individual sessions - we look forward to seeing you there and kindly ask that you share the event with your networks.

Event programme

  • 10.00am - 10.30am: Welcome & introductions. Reflections on the post-Covid world, current economic challenges and looking ahead.
  • 10.30am - 11.30am: Keynote speaker – Laura-Jayne Cutler
  • 11.30 am - 12.15pm: Inclusivity for disabled staff at the University - Disability Matters & What Matters to you: through the lens of DEAP.
  • 12.15pm - 1.00pm: Hamied Haroon, Chair of the National Association of Disability Staff Networks (NADSN) Tackling Disability in Higher Education – a journey.
  • 1.00pm – 1.30pm: Lunch
  • 1.30pm – 2.30pm: Claire Dickens & disability mental health/suicide prevention
  • 2.30pm - 4.00pm: Accessibility in the Arts – panel discussion. Panellists include: Artist and activist, Paul Darke; manager of the Jennifer Lauren Gallery, Jenny Gilbert.
  • 4.00pm - 4.15pm: Closing remarks, invitation to get involved and future events.
