Students Union Elections 2020 – Statement

The University of Wolverhampton Students’ Union Sabbatical elections are still being delivered as usual following NUS guidance that all elections carry on as normal, with the exception of the removal of physical campaigning.

Voting for candidates in Sabbatical Officer roles and Union Chair will went live on Monday, 23 March at 9am and will close on Friday, 27 March at 5pm. All voting will be accessible by visiting wolvesunion.org/vote.

Results will officially be announced on Monday, 30 March across the Students’ Union website and social media channels.

During this uncertain time, as a community we are trying to ensure we continue to give students the opportunity to engage with the students’ union and where possible to provide a full students’ union experience while many people are isolating.

Elections are an ever-evolving and important process, especially within the students’ union landscape. At the Students’ Union we are confident, more so in this modern digital age, that elections can run entirely online.

We want to reassure students in this uncertain time –both those voting and campaigning – that we are still advocating the adherence to Public Health England guidelines on social distancing.

All students will receive election information on voting and with everyone isolating we are hoping an email or social media message not connected to the pandemic may come as a welcome relief.

Students, both those campaigning and those only engaging in voting, are encouraged to get in touch with the Students’ Union to express any concerns they may have in regards to our elections by emailing elections@wolvesunion.org or visiting wolvesunion.org/elections. We acknowledge how important it is to keep a dialogue with our student’s and candidates, more so now than ever.

The decision to move all campaigning and voting to online only was taken following the recommendations from the UK Government on Monday, 16 March in regards to the Coronavirus outbreak and the minimisation of social interaction.
