Things you can do to prepare for next year

Summer is here! It's the time to take some time to relax and unwind after a busy year and assessment period. That said, there are still a few things worth keeping in mind to help you get ahead for the next academic year.

Update your contact details in e:Vision

It's really important to keep your contact details, including your mobile number up to date in e:Vision. You can check and update your details anytime, following the instructions below.

  • Log in to your e:Vision (www.wlv.ac.uk/evision).
  • Select the My Details on the home page menu.
  • Select the View/Edit Personal Information.
  • Use the Edit buttons to update each section.

Your contact details, including a contact telephone number, must always be kept up to date.

Get ahead with your reading

If you're feeling motivated, you can start reading about subjects you know you're taking next year.

The University Library provides access to various resources, including journals and e-textbooks. Browse the subject resources area on the library website to get started. You can also get support using the ASSIST online chat.

The Harrison Library, Walsall Library and Hutchison Library will remain open during the summer. Check out the library website for the latest opening hours.

Going into your final year? Start thinking about dissertation topics

Understandably, the last thing you'll want to do during your break is to think about your dissertation, but getting a head start or even putting together a simple plan will massively help you in the long term.

Check out the Guide to Planning your dissertation from the Skills for Learning team to get an idea of where to begin and what to consider when developing your research question.

Brush up on your study skills

Is there something you struggled with this year or would like to improve?

Our Skills for Learning team can help you develop more effective approaches to your studies and assessments. You can access a range of online skills resources, study guides, academic skills workshops and book appointments for one-to-one support.  A full programme of all sessions can be found on the skills workshops webpage.

Drop into a funding surgery

The Funding team and the SU are running drop-in funding surgeries to support students with finance-related queries.

  • Monday 20 to Friday 24 June, from 10am to 4pm
  • Monday 8 to Friday 12 August, from 10am to 4pm

No booking is required; drop into the Harrison Library at City Campus with any questions or concerns you have about funding.

During the surgeries, we'll be able to advise you on the financial support available to you, such as hardship funding, emergency loans and signposting to further support.

Most importantly, enjoy your summer and be proud of what you've achieved. Once you're finished with your academic work, take some time to relax and catch up with friends and family.

Read our update for accessing support over the summer.
