Join the fight against Covid-19, step forward and help protect our local community

The University is continuing to work closely with our local authority partners on the response to Covid-19. As part of this work, we are supporting the planning for future community testing in the possible event of a variant discovery or outbreak in our local area.

The City of Wolverhampton Public Health team is looking for flexible people with strong communication and customer service skills to help support safe Covid-19 community testing. This will be a paid position, and training will be provided.

In the event of an outbreak or discovery of a new Covid-19 variant, targeted testing will be deployed in specific areas of Wolverhampton. People without coronavirus symptoms will be encouraged to get tested in an effort to help control the spread of the virus and keep everyone safe.

As part of the community testing team, you’ll be required to:

  • Share key messages with residents in areas where targeted testing is being deployed and provide reassurance that measures being taken are to protect the public’s health.
  • Distribute and collect Covid-19 home test kits from residents whilst adhering to strict safety guidelines.
  • Work as part of the community testing team to collectively ensure a high uptake of testing amongst those in targeted areas.
  • Ensure that testing can be accessed by, and meets the needs of, all communities in the targeted area and support the development of appropriate strategies to reduce inequalities where they are found.

As we move towards a more familiar future, the Wolverhampton Public Health team would like to give our students this opportunity to get involved in the response to Covid-19 and make a real difference to the health of all of the City’s residents.

This is a fantastic opportunity to help build skills for your CV and gain new experience. If you are interested in supporting this activity, please view the job description  for more information. This is a paid position, and training will be provided.

I have been continually amazed by the strength and resilience demonstrated by students throughout the pandemic. I realise there are still some challenges to overcome before we can return to a more normal university life, but with the national vaccine programme now in full swing, real progress is being made, and we can look forward to a more positive time ahead.

Stay safe, be kind.
