Welcome to WLV Student - your student newsletter with the latest updates and news from the University.

As we approach the festive break and move into the winter months, it is more important than ever that everyone is doing all they can to keep each other safe. This festive edition of WLV Student includes:

  • A message from Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Julia Clarke.
  • Library opening hours.
  • Support for students.
  • How to stay Covid-safe over Christmas.
  • Looking after your personal safety.
Please keep checking your University WLV emails and reading these updates. We are committed to keeping students up to date. We do this by email, on our social media channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) and the student news webpage.

Message from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor

I want to thank you all for your hard work and resilience this term. It continues to be a challenging time to be a student with ongoing changes to Covid-19 guidance, but we appreciate your understanding and flexibility.

I want to assure you that support remains available for students to access during the festive break.

We recognise that this may be a difficult time for some people, and if you'd like to stay in touch with a member of staff from the University over Christmas, by phone or email, you can request a Welfare Check. Our Festive break at WLV web page contains lots of helpful information for opening hours of facilities and services.

I hope that you will all manage to have well-deserved rest over the holiday period and that your time with friends and family is as special as circumstances allow. We look forward to seeing you all again in January, and as always, we will keep you up to date with any changes to our plans for next semester.

I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Stay safe, be kind.
Professor Julia Clarke

Staying Covid-safe over the festive break

Covid-19 is still here, and we need to continue to do everything we can to keep ourselves and others safe.

  • Get vaccinated: Getting both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and your booster when eligible gives you the best protection against coronavirus. We encourage all students and staff to get vaccinated as soon as possible. You can find more information on getting your vaccine on our Covid-19 vaccination webpage.
  • Test regularly: All students should take a rapid lateral flow test before leaving for the holiday period and one again before returning. Everyone should continue to test themselves regularly at home, especially if you’re accessing the campus and socialising with friends. More information is available on our Testing webpage.
  • Self-isolate when required: If you test positive for Covid-19, you must self-isolate and not come to campus for ten days. Additionally, if you are not fully vaccinated, you must self-isolate for ten days if you are a contact of someone with Covid-19. Visit our Covid-19 reporting procedure webpage for more information.
  • Wear a face-covering: We strongly advise everyone to wear a face-covering on all parts of our campuses. They are also mandatory in some public places, including shops and libraries. Please continue to wear your face coverings if you can do so.
  • Stay safe: We all must do everything we can to reduce the risk of spreading the virus and try to keep each other as safe as possible over the festive period. This includes staying home if you feel unwell, washing hands regularly and meeting outdoors or letting fresh air inside where possible.
Thank you for doing your bit to help keep our community safe.
