Student Update: Road to Reopening FAQs, Welcome and Enrolment

Please be aware that this information was shared with students by email and correct at the time of sending. For the latest Covid-19 guidance, please visit our coronavirus webpages: www.wlv.ac.uk/coronavirus. If you are a student who has a query or needs support, please log a helpcall with ASK@WLV in e:Vision (www.wlv.ac.uk/evision).

As you will be aware from our recent communications and the Road to Reopening @WLV, the University of Wolverhampton is working hard to prepare for your safe return to our campuses from September.

In a recent feedback survey with the Students Union, you told us that you wanted more face-to-face time with your lecturers, more live sessions online, to return to campus for teaching where it is safe and access to study space in the libraries. We have listened to your feedback and are reflecting it in our planning for the new academic year.

When you return to your studies in September, you will learn through a variety of delivery methods which will include face-to-face teaching on campus and online, pre-recorded videos and lectures, and live online activities. This is what we call blended learning.

We recognise, however, that each student faces different challenges and we know that some of you may not feel ready to return to campus straight away. So we need to ensure, where possible, that these students can access all their learning online. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us all to have to work differently and your safety is our primary concern.

We understand that in these uncertain times you will have a lot of questions about what life at the University will be like in the new academic year, and in our new Road to Reopening FAQs we have tried to answer these so that you feel prepared and ready to return to your studies from September.

You can find out more about your teaching and learning, as well as what life on-campus will be like from September in the Road to Reopening FAQs.

WLV Welcome

When you return to the University there will be an exciting programme of weekly events taking place on-campus and online in September and October, that you will be able to join. This will be your chance to catch-up with your fellow students, meet new people and get involved with the University community.

We’ll announce the schedule of our WLV Welcome events soon, by email and on our social media channels.

You can also view our WLV Welcome webpages here: www.wlv.ac.uk/welcome

Don’t forget, you can also check out the Students’ Union Freshers webpage for details on social activities for Welcome, as well as their service offering for students throughout the academic year.

If you need any help or support whilst on-campus you’ll be able to visit a WLV Welcome Point, where you can ask any questions and be signposted to student support services where needed.

There will also be a team of experienced Student Ambassadors at City and Walsall Campus, who will be supporting new students joining the University to navigate our campuses.

Timetables, Enrolment and Module Registration

We have been working hard to ensure that our campus is covid-secure for the start of term. This means that there will be strict social distancing measures and other controls, such as wearing of face-masks, which will be in place in line with local authority and Government requirements at any particular time. It is your responsibility as a member of the University community to abide by these so that we are all safe.

As part of our social distancing measures you will not be learning in large groups (so lectures will be on line). Seminars, workshops and laboratories will have far fewer people in them than previously with and teaching rooms will be marked out to ensure there is sufficient distance between occupants.

Returning students: Once you have obtained enough credits to progress on to your next year of studies you will be notified that enrolment and module registration is open for you in e:Vision. It is important that you complete both of these tasks as soon as possible so that we can prepare your personalised timetable ahead of the new academic year.

We recognise that many of our students will have additional commitments outside their studies, so we are doing all we can to ensure timetables are ready as soon as possible. These are exceptional circumstances and we really appreciate your patience in relation to this in these challenging times.
