I am writing to you following the Prime Minister’s roadmap announcement on Easter Monday. The Prime Minister did not give any indication of when universities would be permitted to resume in person teaching on campus for courses that have not yet been allowed to return.

I appreciate that this will have been disappointing for those of you who are on non-practical courses. The Government has said that it will give a week’s notice of the permitted return date, and we will, of course, update you immediately when we receive this.

Postgraduate courses have seven weeks of teaching scheduled from Monday, 12 April, so we still very much hope that you will be able to return to campus before the end of the academic year.

The undergraduate teaching period finishes on Friday, 30 April. This means that students who have not yet returned to in person teaching on campus would be doing so for a maximum of two weeks ahead of the revision and assessment period.  As such, some of you may find it more convenient to continue your learning online. Nevertheless, as soon as we know if and when you can return, your course leader will contact you directly about what teaching and revision activities will be happening on campus for those of you who want to return.

I would also like to remind you that our libraries remain open to all students who do not have access to an appropriate study space or PC where they are living.

All students accessing the library and study spaces are expected to follow social distancing guidelines and face coverings must be wornYou must book a study space in advance of travelling and show your booking confirmation to staff upon arrival. You can find more information and book a study space here.

Visit our dedicatedCovid-19 webpagesfor information on how you can stay safe and help protect our University community during the pandemic.

Thank you, and stay safe.
