Women in Engineering Scholarships

The University works with local charitable trusts and corporate sponsors, who share our vision of seeing more female engineers in industry. Thanks to their support, over the last 6 years, 19 scholarships have been awarded to women joining engineering courses at the University, and they have gone on to succeed academically and launch careers in the UK and overseas for companies like Pro-Drive, Baker-Bellfield or setting up their own business in Nigeria. 

We are offering FIVE scholarships of £1,000 to be awarded in October 2023, to female students beginning their engineering education at the University.

These scholarships have been used by previous recipients to fund research trips, buy textbooks, laptops and software packages and support extra-curricular activities like participating in University of Wolverhampton Racing.

We will accept applications for a Women in Engineering Scholarship from: 

• Applicants to any Level 3 (Foundation Year) or Level 4 (First Year) course in the Department of Engineering. For a full list of courses, click HERE.
• Applicants who commence their course of study and remain enrolled on their course for the duration of their chosen Degree Programme.
• Applicants who identify as female.

Recipients will be asked to participate in thanking donors and in University / Donor / Scholarship promotional activity, although eligibility for a scholarship is not contingent on participation in this activity. 

Applications are assessed by a diverse panel of judges representing the Department of Engineering. Scholarships are awarded on a combination of criteria including academic achievement, academic discipline, and personal circumstances. The judgement of the panel after awarding the scholarships will be available on request by emailing Aman.Dhir@wlv.ac.uk in line with University’s policies on Transparency and Equality.

Scholarships are awarded to the recipients by BACS transfer to the sum of £1,000 on commencement of their studies in the Department of Engineering. 

Recipients will need to agree in writing to the terms of the scholarship, as well as standard University financial processes, in advance of the BACS transfer being made. 

If recipients are found to have breached the terms of the scholarship, in the judgement of the original awarding panel, they may be asked to repay all or part of the scholarship to the University. 

Applications for the 2023 Women in Engineering scholarships will open on International Women’s Day, Wednesday 8^th March 2023.

The absolute deadline to complete an application is 08:00 on Monday 11^th September 2023.

The Selection Panel will convene in the week commencing Monday 18^th September 2023, and applicants will be informed if they have been successful by Monday 2^nd October 2023.

The Scholarships are provided by a local charitable trust, and West Midlands-based solicitors FBC Manby Bowdler.
