The Mayoral Scholarship at the University of Wolverhampton

In May 2019, alumna Claire Darke (BA Hons English and Spanish, 1992) became Mayor of Wolverhampton. As proud and dedicated servants of the city, and graduates of the University of Wolverhampton, Claire and her husband Paul Darke, decided to use the opportunity to create The Mayoral Scholarship at the University of Wolverhampton.

Initially using donated funds from The Mayor of Wolverhampton’s Charitable Fund, the Mayoral Scholarship now needs your generosity to continue supporting current students from the City of Wolverhampton.

The majority of students at the University of Wolverhampton are local. Almost 80% of the 20,000 students who study with us come from within 25 miles of the City centre. Around 4,500 of those who graduate each year remain around the city and contribute to the local economy. 96% of our graduating class go on to full time employment or further study within 6 months*.

However, many of our students need support to enable them to achieve their potential, and this is why scholarships like The Mayoral Scholarship at the University of Wolverhampton are vitally important in providing a financial boost to those who need it.

Scholarships enable buying equipment such as laptops or art supplies. They pay for research trips or even child care.

Scholarships have helped students like Sally Lancaster, an aerospace engineering student, who has received a scholarship to help promote women into the engineering industry, and O’Shane Bennet, a student nurse who received a scholarship to enable him to take a valuable placement opportunity in France.

The Mayoral Scholarship at the University of Wolverhampton will enable up to four students per year to receive this kind of assistance. The only stipulation is that they are from the City of Wolverhampton, because we know that our local talent is one of our greatest assets. With your help and generosity to the Mayor of Wolverhampton’s Charitable Fund, you can make a difference in the lives of the next generation of talented students from Wolverhampton.

Please consider a donation to the Mayoral Scholarship at the University of Wolverhampton, and make the world of difference to a student’s life.
